A look back at World Cup half way :
Hello everyone. Welcome to my new post. No one cares about cricket. When two countries play, people of both countries cheer. An example for this is Bilateral Series. But, when world cup comes, suddenly Cricket feels like Football where suddenly everyone started to love and see cricket.
It is still a big question to me how world cup creates such a big hype around it. In this world cup, ten teams participate. We all thought for a while that the possible four nations to make into Semi Final would be India, Australia, England and New Zealand. Halfway down the line, now there is no certainty for this. I thought of South Africa before the start of the world cup. But, Bangladesh defeated South Africa just like that. It is not because of weakness of South Africa, it is because of lack of intensity in the team. South Africa lacked a clear intensity. They are playing just to play. It is very hard to see them like this. I think they didn't try anything. They lacked Ab devilliars and it's okay. Who is Ab devilliars? Just another player. But, it looks like he is everything to them. It just signifies how much a single player can impact the whole team. Just look at how Sri Lanka is struggling without Sangakkara and Jayawardane! Dilshan was there. But with Sangakkara and Jayawardane, they could add at least some 50-150 runs every match. But, everything is a part of the game.
How Sri Lanka defeated England?
On that match, it was like what's happening? Sri Lanka played like some Kids trying to score runs. Mathews struggled for every single run. It's because of his some late blows, he could make up some strike rate in an otherwise test innings. He was out of form but has that score of his proved match winning one? No, a big No!
England became chokers all of a sudden. They started to lose something. What is that something? We knew they are clear favorites ahead of the game. They lost to Pakistan. That's one game. Okay. But, the game against Sri Lanka is some clear sign of choking. They are becoming nervous now. They have great players like Bairstow, Root and Morgan. They have great all rounders like Ben Stokes and to some extent Chris Woakes. They have sensational bowling from Jofra Archer. They have dangerous finisher like Buttler. What do they lack? Moen Ali is that one player who is not known for his purpose to the team. But,yes he gives a break through with the ball. They tried Vince with opening. But that doesn't work out. They are now at an edge of getting thrown away. They have tough matches where they have to win. A good thing is that they can win and enter semis. But that won't sell.
England lost their way. They lost their flow of winning. Their loss against Sri Lanka disturbed their momentum. THEY HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT CHASING SCORES LIKE 200-250 is more dangerous than high scores. They proved it again. For now, they can bring Moen to top of the order and test his batting. They can even drop Moen and try someone else. Yes, Moen provided some break through. He took the wicket of David Warner. But, they have to try something different to stay in the game.
India , New Zealand and Australia would go into semi finals for now. Other spot is really a big big question. Everyone wonders at it now. Bangladesh or Sri Lanka or Pakistan.
Pakistan has become a dangerous side now. After their defeat to India, they came back strongly defeating New Zealand. They have an average-above average batting and bowling line up and an average fielding. New Zealand lost their way in batting. Pakistan proved again that they can win any side on their day. But, that day is unknown to anyone.
Bangladesh are fighting very very hard. They are fighting like Tiger. But they have weak bowling line up. With Mortaza not taking many wickets, they are always struggling. They are that side leaking 50 runs with their weak bowling line up and trying to match them with batting. It won't last long. That's already proven to them. They can give captaincy to Shakib or Mushfiqur and take some strong bowler.
The game is open now. I would say England might defeat any team but not India. India is having struggling middle order.But they have strong top order and a good finisher like Hardik. Hardik is now becoming easier to guess. He is always targeting leg side. He should focus on all sides. He is becoming one dimensional batsman in recent matches. If he changes that too, he would be good. India's bowlers are good. Yes, Kuldeep is not at at expected levels. He should become confident before important semi finals and possibly finals.
What about West Indies? They are a team with good individual players. They have to play like a team and build partnerships in batting. They stand eliminated now.
